I want to get some new brake discs and pads for the 72 rrc.

went to dingo croft for a quote and they wanted £20 for an axel set of mintex pads which are £7 form paddocks and £30 per disc for lockheed as they didnt do mintex.plus all the fitting bits it came to quite alot along with my other shopping recently.

anyway paddocks will do these two sets:

BRAKEKIT12 Rear Discs and Pads Kit - RR Classic to end of BA chassis

BRAKEKIT11 Front Discs and Pads Kit - RR Classic to end of BA chassis

They dont sell any other discs for my 72 either btw.

and as you can see I can get it all for the price of two discs.

thing is I asked about the paddocks discs and they are unbranded and they have had no problems with them and they are not ****part.

Has anyone tried them, what are they like?

Then you have a choice trust the pattern ones that will most likely be fine or by the Lockheed ones at more money. I have never had a problem with Britpart discs. The Lockheed, Britpart and pattern discs are probably all made in the same factory in China or Indian anyway.

I was thinking that, plus I was just doing the rounds looking at island 4x4 and thay are doing the same kit for more money. they have a good rep no? would they stock crap?

thanks.

landy parts places websites are a load of ****, how do they expect you to order stuff when they have no pics and no deatils, load of ****e lazy fookers!

Island 4 x 4 are good but I use AMD at Desford who do mail order. Their number is 01530 230023. I have used them for my Series 1 and Discovery since 1994 and always offer a good service and a choice of parts. They run series vehicles and Range Rovers and have been in the business for years. I have read on a forum recently that some britpart disks have the wrong PCD for the hub studs!

erm not exactly if you get decent pattern ones for instance brake engineering they are made in the uk or at least in europe (i believe lockheed have a hooge factory in germany)

who knows where britpart get there bits from the unbranded chinese discs will be made 'to look like' the originals the metal used in the manufacture and the processes used are pretty much guaranteed not to be up to scratch

btw did you know it is illegal for a garage to fit or a factor to supply a set of pads that are not E90 approved for an application that is post 2001

keeping engine standard???

if not then i recomend ebc grooved, kin expensive but good..(no more brake fade,)

you can even fit vented if you wish, though that means fitting metric hubs as the vented dont fit the imperial hubs.easy job though..

its a 72 rrc so no worries on 91 applications lol

I do want good quality , seems there is little middle ground though

i know that but what you have to look at is how much do you rely on your brakes? there is very little middle ground because the cheap ones are **** and the good ones are a reasonable price, realistically good discs will last longer and perform better as will good pads

if it was me i would fit brake engineering discs and ferodo premier pads

I was thinking that but they are all shut now , plus they arnt very knowledgable.

I will be using mintex pads, I would like mintex discs too but they only seem to have the later ones everywhere

I have a plan:

Get brembo front discs for £44 delivered to uses with my mintex pads I already have.

then from paddocks buy the rear complete kit with no name discs but mintex pads. the back doesnt do much anyway being my theory :D

every singe supplier we use regaurly , pads, crads,mm,island etc is selling those kits I cant believe it could too bad

what motorfactors are you using? unipart? motorparts direct? GSF? eurocarparts? or a smaller independant factor?

the smaller independant factors are normally more knowledgeable as they tend to employ from other sectors of the motortrade like ex-mechanics

well Dingo croft did me a deal with free delivery on the front discs which I got and are ap lockheed with mintex pads (I am not tight , I also got springs , dampers wheel studs and nuts for alloys. cost me near £300)

so as I said before I went to padwanks for a cheap deal on the rear, all the bits inlcuding mintex pads and there famed no-name discs.

Bastids gave me britpart rear discs, and I was determined not to have any britpart on my 72
