I need a key

I found out today (after working on my boss's p38) my key is not to well, the battery connectors inside are missing, I'm on the look out for a key or battery connectors I can fit to my key if anyone can help ?

I've recently purchased the car, I put a refurb kit on my key and it didn't work, looking in my boss's key there's 2 metal connections the battery's connect to in order to get the key powered, in my key there's no connections therefore the batteries are not making the unit live

if I can find a faulty key I can unsolder the connectors and solder them into mine in order to get my key working again (hopefully)

call me suspicious but has this anything to do with your door lock post?If you fix the key fob you may find that it wont work because the r/f receiver will be disconnected because it was f#cking up the door lock motors.Hope im not right

door lock post is for rebuilding the lock's, my front passenger side motor failed, my rear drivers side motor became noisy, r/f receiver is connected and I can put my hands on a spare if needs be

I got the car a few weeks ago just trying to get all the silly little things sorted so I have myself a good p38 (hopefully)

Well there's some bloody robbers out there! Contacted a few people on flebay one said £50, another £40 one said £10 plus postage who I'm waiting on an invoice from, the last a minute ago said £5 Inc delivery big differamce especially as a key from
Another p38 is scrap to anyone with out the barcode

Yes they are scrap without the VIN or barcode. People still fall for the "Can probably be reprogrammed by a dealer" line and willingly part with £40+ because in their mind they are saving £100 !!!
There are brand new locksets available for £100 with 2 keyfobs, 2 emergency keys, set of new handles, ignition barrel, chrome tailgate pushbutton assembly and RF receiver for £100......Only problem is that they are for the U.S./Canadian market which means that the front handles are the opposite orientation (L.h. drive) and the frequency of the fobs and receiver is 315Mhz instead of the 433Mhz most of us have.
And Yes, they do come with the Lockset Barcode.:behindsofa:

.....Taking the keyfobs @ around £140 apiece, RF receiver @ around £150, 4 x door handles @ (I dunno) say £45 average each, plus the tailgate button assy. and ignition barrel etc. I would guess around £600-£700 total, plus of course the dreaded VAT.

Just taking either one keyfob or the RF receiver on it's own would be more than the cost of the complete set !!!

Given that the "Old" 433Mhz system gives spurious signal problems, I don't know how the 315Mhz would stand up over here under those conditions.
Bear in mind that 433 keyfobs won't work on a 315 system and the drivers door handle is for the Passenger side on R.H. drive cars...it's arse about face, and that includes the wiring harness !!
There is no reason however why the existing keyblade(s) could not be swapped with those on the new fobs or additional blades cut as required, keyblade blanks are around £4 apiece.
Finally, the new Lockset or FOB code has to be programmed into the Becm, which in most cases requires that it's unlocked first.
All in all, they would work fine but my only reservation is with spurious signals affecting the 315 RF receiver...perhaps someone can enlighten us ????

I don't know, I am no expert on radio frequencies.
If that's the case, the chances of picking up stray signals would be very low. Do the cops have mobile frequency scanners as well now so they can nick you for something else ??? Can't imagine that the prosecution rate is very high....much lower than for doing 71 mph in a 70 zone !!!!!!!

ok I got a key today, should be able to desolder / solder from inside the battery hole, but does anyone know if I can open the key to do the repair correctly ?

when i had to resolder the buttons back on the keyfob had to split the plastic and restick with superglue but you might be luckey and get it apart without damaging the seal.
