Any thoughts on tyres for winter/wet weather. The wheels on it need a refurb and new tyres. It has the budgets on it I bought it with. These can get some nice summer tyres next year.

However winters coming.

New wheels needed and something smaller probably 19" but which tyres? Generally over winter I always switch to winter tyres. I have been using pirellis on the e34. However is there anything better for this car. Something that gives excellent wet grip grip on muddy lanes and can cope with the cold and snow.

No need in the UK any more. Winters aren't that bad and these cars have bags of grip. Even in Scotland some decent AT tyres and you're good all year round.

Not my experience. Winter tyres on my bmw do improve handling in cold wet muddy conditions. I live in Suffolk. Some roads are covered in mud. It's not just for snow. Stopping distance are shorter. Less risk of aquaplaning too.

The sills have a can of waxoyl in them each.

Bmw`s are well known not to be good in snow and mud, its a brave man that drives a bemmer in the snow

The paintwork looks great but you need to keep those door rubber seals free from grit to keep them like that long term, especially along those muddy lanes you mention. I’ve got to get the rear arches done on mine before the rot sets in.

Regarding tyres the factory still put Pirelli Scorpion on the Range and to be fair I’ve always kept them on my 20” rims for winter months, swapping to 22” summer bling. If you have budget on the 20” that need changing, why not try Pirelli on those before spending on new rims and AT’s. The Range will out perform a BMW RWD anyway. Let us know how it goes.

Nexen Rodian M+S work well all year round and are fine on our mud clogged lanes whilst being quiet on the auto routes.

20" no those monster are 22". Got lucky today and got some clean 19" silver wheels with very good (new or 18 months old) goodyear wrangler hp M+S tyres. These can be the winter wheels and I will use these tyres for now. Higher profile tyres are good thing. So those big black wheels can get refurbished now ready for some nice tyres for the warmer months or I might sell them and get some 20". If any one wants 4x 285/35r22 achillies desert hawk tyres (one is almost new). Other three with good thread, let me know. I won't be using them again.

On the door rubbers noted - I fully intend to keep this car squeaky clean. I forgot to mention I have replaced the window weather strips because they were bubbling.

I have had 80's bmws for the past 18 years and I have never found then a handful in the snow. Winter tyres help alot. They handle very predictably. I light touch or out right commitment are required.

The range has been mopped which is why it has such a shine.

Good call on the 19’s with a higher wall. That’s the benefit of the 20” too. The 22’s will always find a buyer if refurbished so easy money but it may be a lot harder to sell them when they’re freshly done, I know from experience.

Rear wheel drive. My Jag is a sod on anything but tarmac. But the Rangie with AT tyres tackles just about anything. I've got snow tyres but gave up using them as it was just a hassle switching them over.

I am in no rush to sell them. I quite like them but they need a better finish.

Wet grass gets the bmw. That's worse than snow. Range rover can be used for fields now.

I maybe getting confused here. The M+S tyres are the all season tyres not winter as I first thought. So I will keep the goodyear wranglers hp. They are a bit noisey but I can live with that.
