My motor has been 'tinkered with' by the previous owner.....a lot :D

I am confident he has wound up the fuel - can it be brought back down easily... I would hope to reach 30 mpg one day

Yes, I've been known to get 35mpg from my 200TDi on veggie.

OK but the question I was really asking is....... Does running veg oil give a noticeable improvement on MPG (without tinkering) - My assumption is 'not' but the thread seems to imply yes it does -does that make sense?

So does it? - I mean I dunno, I is just asking.:)

Your asking questions, but also you have to listen.

See here, it'll help...just do your research.

Properties of veg oils-cetane number is the one ur interested in,derv is 45 minnimum:Vegetable oil yields, characteristics 2: Journey to Forever
Bio is always higher than derv, and a better lubricant, but contains less energy,so on the whole can expect slightly less mpg.Veg is also a better lubricant than derv, but you need to get a complete burn to deal with the glycerine component, otherwise carbon build up after extended use.
So overall, you should expect slightly less mpg on biofuels, but it does depend on individual circumstances
