I have been offered a P reg 300 Tdi 3 door Disco today, its poverty spec ( wind up windows) but the engine / box are as sweet as a nut, the bodywork is exceptional apart from approx 6" on the leading edge of the drivers door skin.
It needs a valet & the paint is dull ( flat red) but it seems to be 'all there'
I looked at the front floor/ bulkhead area & the rear chassis, the floor was fine & the chassis only had surface rust on it.

There was a threaded hole (approx 10mm dia) below the bottom pulley that looked like it should have a bolt in it ... is that right????
The MOT runs out in August but I can have it for £1500.

Opinions & advice please folks.
Thanks in anticipation

Thats one less thing to go wrong then

Its only got the 2 doors anyhow so I suppose I will get used to it.... pity it hasnt got aircon though, I could remove the winders then :D

Im very lucky having a mate thats a car dealer, he bought it today off a dealer higher up the foodchain & knew that I wanted a 4x4, he has a Vauxhall Monterey 3.1TD LTD that I could have had for £1200 but I would rather put my money in a Disco than one of those.

Im not touching the Monterey, the cambelt is £48, tensioner just over £200 & idler over £50.... & that was 10% discount at the local Vauxhall dealer, added to which a bit of homework on t'internet advised that it would need a new turbo anytime soon!

Im taking the Disco for a testdrive on saturday but Im sure I shall be having it for that money... just need a wall to climb to make sure the transmission is working properly
I had a look on 'youtube' last night & the vids on there convinced me I need a Disco ( just trying to convince the Mrs I need a big winch to go on the front.... " its a grand below book & that money would be really well spent on a winch sweetheart"..... lets hope she bites :D )

Ive lost my Disco to the other half....She didnt even want a landy but i forced the subject and now im back in my series 1 with no door tops getting cold and wet.....

Its nice to see the drive with the green oval well represented.

Mine is still on 'L' plates after a record 17 years, she has her own car ( '98 Fiat Brava 1.6 SX auto.... its excellent before it gets a slating  & it only cost £300 with less than 70K miles) & she will not be getting behind the wheel of MY Disco, I'm selling my bike & part of the money it fetches will buy me my Landy so Im going to be really selfish about it & do as i please :D

I wish I had a series 1 lurking around

I found myself looking at Disco's, Defenders & Series Landy's today whilst sightseeing around the Pennines & thinking 'yeah, they look the puppies privates'... stroll on saturday for the testdrive, I cant wait :D

Im a bit of an easy pushover for the green oval, been offered another pair of 80 inch motors, one complete and one in bits. Cant say no, and the other half doesnt help, as long as i leave enough garden for family BBQ's i can use the rest for the fleet.

May have to get rid of the panda and diahatsu to free up some more space...

Surely theres a valid argument regarding the size of half an oildrum?

My days of collecting cars are long gone but as I see it you have a couple of options.

1. fall out with family... no need for a BBQ

2. force BBQ into corner of patio thereby allowing space for the Panda ON THE PATIO :D

Well, I took it for a testdrive today, service history stamped up till 101K miles ( its got 119K miles on the clock).
I was incredibly impressed & surprised how well it pulled........ 3 ft of accelerator pedal movement though
I lifted the boot carpet & all was well ( minor rust in the channels that run forward from the tailgate corners...I can sort that)
The rear x member behind the bumper only had a bit of surface rust which will be removed & treated asap.
The windscreen has damage to it but I can get a new one fitted for £80 so no drama there, Oh it need some wiper blades.
The rocker box gasket is leaking a bit but the engine isnt breathing so I will replace the gasket & clean out the breathers.
Apart from that, the MOT runs out August 15th so I shall be getting on with it as soon as the Disco arrives

One of your first jobs is to remove/blank off the egr valve, then it will be a different disco again, try it on some bio diesel (bought with duties paid) and it will be qucker and more responsive again.

The EGR will be getting bypassed straight away ;)
matey at Home reckoned I could wind the wastegate screw in a full turn & back off the pump a little along with a single box exhaust to make it fly.
I cant wait to collect it :D
