I don't like roof rails

Recently bought 03 Kalihari , really like it, only thing not keen on are the roof rails, can these be removed and if so what goes in there place. Can anyone help?

There are two plastic fitments that go in the front bit and I presume metal spacers in the back.

I like the roof rails that go from back to front, they aid me when cleening the roof (hanging on whilst standing on the side steps)

To clean the roof (the very rare times it happens), i just grab the roofrails and step on the rear wheels from where I can reach 3/4th of the roof, than I step down on the side steps hanging on the rails as you do to clean the front part of the roof. First time I cleaned the car I did it with a small ladder, was that a ridiculous sight, I had to lean over and the ladder fell on the car etc....

Its only the stubborn understains that hold my Landy together.

Well, in the old days, when I still worked (retired in the meantime), I was rather busy but made nevertheless always time to clean/wash my cars (I owned through a period of 39 years until my retirement) once a week. Now being home all days and having plenty of time this cleaning/washing still happens but only once every two to three months ??? Imagin.
I think it's much easier to drive the car out of the garage when it rains very hard, it helps to keep it clean, besides as it is an Epsom green it's useless to try to keep it clean, a 2 km trip on a rainy day spoils everything even if I polished it just before.
