Me half shaft I mean! ;)

It goes in and engages with the splines OK, it just won't go that last 1/8" so that the drive member meets the hub. I've tried hammerin it and winding it in with the bolts, but I'm afraid I'll break sommat.

This is the 200TDi Disco axle, that I'm fettlin up to fit onto me Deepender.
I've replaced all the bearings and seals in the hub and set the end-float as per Rave. The outer hub nut ended up flush with the end of the stub axle, so I'm guessing that it's all re-assembled correctly.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Only ask coz the inner bearing cowl which sits immediately in the elbow of the half shaft welded itself on to mine to the point where first time i thought it was part of the half shaft and had to cold chisel it off when i realised it wasn't, but with it in place and a new bearing in too the drive member didn't quite reach the splines of the drive shaft, which it needs to poke through for the spacers and circlip to fit over.
 
The bearings are deffo seated fully. I used be hydraulic press, and I could see that they went right up to the shoulder in the hub.
The outer hub nut has ended up dead flush with the end of the stub axle, which I'd have thought was perfect.
 
Can't ye just pull it out a bit? Is it the same as the defender Trewy? It's just that when ah was doin' me bearings on the back wheel, the shaft would go all the way in when ah tried to put me drive flange back on. Infact ah had to withdraw the shaft a bit, stuck the flange on then the circlip, and then bit of wigglin' about eventually got it sorted ;)
 
yer, screw a bolt into the end and pull it out. what happened to buster happened to me too. have you tried turning your prop to see if it moves the shaft much in your favour? alt kick the otherside and hope it all moves over :) good luck
 
yer is mis-understandin buster mate.
the half shaft is already attached to the drive flange. I is tryin to push the half-shaft / drive flange combo into the axle casing and the splines at the diff end.
the splines are mating, and it goes in, all bar the last 1/8" for some strange reason.
 
Coz tis the rear oneTrewey's got, tis the front one yer gotta pull through the drive member and put the circlips on - have you tried just turning the other rear wheel a bit, just to see if something could be in the way in the casing?

t'uvva side half shaft and hub aint fitted yet!
tried turnin the diff - the half shaft turns with it nicely, indicating that the splines are engaged. tis just the last 1/8" as I say. tried ****tin it wiv a big ammer, but no luck. :mad:

My rear one must be special then Odie cos it's got a circlip on it....

if the otherside isnt fitted maybe its the slack in the diff making you lose it? try engaging the other halfshaft and pushing it all over to the side your doing... or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Whenever ah've had me shaft out, the other one's always still in there:D
