Hello everyone, new to Freelanders and Land Rovers... So I bought one as a trade sale with no warranty - 2005 td4 S.

I bought it knowing "it smoked a bit on cold" and thought it could have something horrendously wrong with the turbo or something I could sort myself.

So I took the plunge and bought it on the condition that if it went wrong it would be now my problem. Writing this down makes it sound even dafter. I must point that I knew full well this was a bit of a risk but I thought for a grand it'll either work for a bit then die, it'll be fixable and I've done good or it'll die immediately and cost me an arm and a leg!

So, I set about googling the night I bought it and ordered a crank case breather kit as I thought I'll start with the small bits first and see how it pans out.

Whilst waiting for this to come I took it out and noticed it was a bit of a lumpy ride when at speed when you're lightly on the throttle. Not idle or when you're accelerating though. It was a bit like a misfire when I've had coil packs go on petrol cars years back. I bought a bottle of injector cleaner from the petrol station when I filled up thought it would do no harm but it seemed to make it worse so it would do the same weird thing when revving stood still and then became quite undriveable.

Fast forward a few days; I've fitted a new oil separator and changed the pump and filter behind the wheel. I also cleaned the egr valve as it was gunked up. I'm still at square one though. I've tried running without the MAF plugged in to see if it was any better but no different. It wasn't until I got someone to rev it for me and then I watched from outside that I could see a bit more of what's going off.

I've spent days googling various phrases to try and find someone with similar symptoms as mine but because I can't really describe what it is I didn't find anything other than to change the bits what I've done now.

I took a video as a substitute for a poor attempt at trying to describe what's going off.

Basically I was wondering whether it's something I can potentially fix or whether it needs handing to a pro. Or torching as it'll cost a small mortgage to fix!

Thanks for any help at all! And hello!
