This is sad. Having put so much work in, and having got so close an
all.

Mind, for some it may be that the journey is more important than the
destination - which, IMO, is just as valid (sometimes more so). If
that makes sense.

I find working on the fleet is usually good therapy for all the other ****e
in life. I get a buzz from getting things to work on a limited budget.
Perhahps thats the problem here is that there is no cheap soloution to my
immediate problem having already explored the budget option. I think
currently theres also a catalogue of minor faults consipring against me
getting him running right,, only time and patients will resolve those, sadly
my normal supplier is currently out of stock of both.

I've just been out and finally aligned the front passenger door on the
Rangie, a small job which has been irritating me for some weeks since the
initial throw together to get it back on the road.A minor cosmetic hurdle
which resulted in a feel good factor massively outweighing the effort to do
the job. Perhahps I'll take a look at Percy in a week or so once I've
chilled.

To come back on topic though the 101 being a basic Landrover in all respects
is actually one of my motivators to stay enthusiastic about the Marque. It's
STILL wainting to be painted due to other stuff taking priority , however it
is now fitted with rear side facing bunks which form a double bed, the bunks
themselves fold up out of the way to form two forward facing seats which
have the advantage of not making you want to vomit and also the luxury of
seatbelts for kiddie security. The framework for the Sink and cooker and
matching symetrical cupboard opposite are fitted. Indeed the sink and cooker
were thrown in for the last MOT. So Morph is actually getting to be quite a
useful truck. The rear towbar means that if necessary we can take the
caravan to events. This has also opened up a whole load of options for
weekends away with the family and friends given the extra bunks available.
Morph will be 4 berth once completed (Not including any roof tent/additions)
and the Caravans 4 berths and proper shower , awning and luxury makes for a
good combination. The odd weekends away such as Gaydon may in the future be
purely 101 based. If I had to get rid of one of the fleet I think that the
101 would actually be one of my more reluctant disposals even considering
the time , effort and uniqueness off Percy. Once the Morph has been LPG'd
and Power steering installed (more for peace of mind due to unreliable
steering boxes than luxury) then he will be seeing much more action.

I remember as a small child actually shedding a tear watching my Dads first
Rangie drive down the street when he sold it. Given how enthusiastic the
wife and kids are over the fleet I don't think I could bring myself to drop
any of them at the moment purely due to a blip in the system.

Dave , knowing you have in interest in outdoors stuff, if you don't go for a
101 then take a good hard look at unimog expo vehicles. I think either would
be right up your street.

mind, they don't all have a 4.6, autobox and power steering. I venture to
suggest that you're not prepared to admit how much grumble actually cost
you, overall...

Just wait until he decides that a Pinzgauer is the way to go......

Who knows full well what his Disco has cost and very much doubts anybody's
likely to give him £7k for a 1992 200TDIs

Does anybody here dare to admit how much their landrover has cost
them? I certainly dont like to think about mine too much!.

I tried adding it up once but after it got to about 3 times my inital
estimate and i realised that i hadnt yet counted the engine or gearbox
I stopped and vowed to never try again!

It is against socialist principles that you should be allowed to own
TWO 101's. You should give one of them to me in order to clear your
concience.

Huh, thought it was against socialist principles to own any, you'd best give the
other to me!

I only want one, you can have Grumble.

We know where you live Martyn, watch it

well... the current disco set me back about 2700 by the time I'd put the gas
conversion on it.

since then... sundry repairs and minor mods, not a lot more I doubt. It's
shortly gonna cost me for a second-hand gearbox, mind.

On which subject, anyone got a ballpark figure for an LT77, without T-box,
in supposedly good condition, including good splines on the output shaft.

My conscience is confused... You had a 101 - a very nice 101, then
you sold it. I can see no means of easing my inherent guilt for
owning three by giving you one of them, which you would quite
evidently not cherish.

No. Socialist philosophy is that we should all own equally and share
the benefit of our collective labour. By this logic Land Rover will
start building 101s again once I achieve my destined role as overall
dictator in the UK.

Knowing where I live will not prevent my neighbours breaking you legs
if you try to prevent them adoring my fine collection of Solihulls
finest...

They know, you see, that the local villains think I'm some kind of mad
survivalist nutter - so don't bother trying to break into any of the
houses around here...

They're right to think this, too... ;-)

I can account for every penny I've spent on Grumble, and the others.
This includes petrol, LPG, maintenance, luxury items...

I have an annoying habit of keeping very strict financial records.

I look, then cry, then remember what joy and smile, lots.

won't do you any good. I seen the film. Tremors, I think it were called.
Bloke in that with a cellar-full of enough armament to start a minor war...
