I have a new to me LR110 2009. It is ex electric utility. It has a winch. By poking around I have found that there is a PTO to a hydraulic pump. The pipes head to the front via a control valve for 'forward' and 'reverse'. The pipes then visit a hydraulic motor bolted to the chassis and that has a wee prop-shaft heading to the superwinch. Fluid is behind the drivers seat and the level is mid-way between high and low.
Anyway, feeling brave I put the transfer into neutral, put the box into 4th, engaged the PTO by pulling out the rod under the drivers set.
Oh sh*t, the squealing started. Pushed the rod back in and cut the engine.
Oh cr*p the squealing continued.
I had to hit the battery isolator to stop the noise.
Left the beast off for 5 mins, un-isolated the battery and guess what - the squealing restarted.
There is a ?pump? and ?filter? a bit behind the driver, bolted to the chassis. I think that is where the squealing is coming from. What is that thing? Why does it have battery power??? Is it circulating oil from the resevoir - or some other purpose. It has been ****ing rain for the last few days and by the time i get to look around it is pitch black.
Also, despite the PTO pump being disabled, the red flashing light for 'dont you dare reverse' is on - 24 x 7.
I am guessing that when I find that switch and make it work again that the squealing will stop.
Is the squealing normal on one of these beasts when the winch PTO is engaged?
see www.cap-partnership.co.uk/landie for some photos of some of the bits.....
All help appreciated.
