Hi chaps.

Before you all start hating on me.....
I know all the rules and regs regarding sva's and the such.....
I have been offered a 1983 88" series 3 with a good body but has got a shot chassis and engine for nothing.
an 88" with a 2.5 diesel and 5 speed box would be perfect for what i requre and i love the retro looks of the series.

my question is what is required for me to fit a coil sprung discovery chassis under the series body, is it possible?
i have heard storys about the rear props being too short and the such.
is there a link to anyone that has done this?

any help / information would be much appriciated!

cheers

The series 3 is 88" wheelbase and the Disco1 is 100" wheelbase. Apart from that obvious issue, there's the moving/fabricating of new body mounts (in exactly the right place, of course...), the bulkhead mounts, the steering column, the dashboard wiring and a bunch of other little bits and bobs to do. It would need to be registered under the Disco1 registration plate, so your 'donor' car would need to be not scrapped, etc etc.

Its possible though, plenty have done it, and getting it legal isn't a massive issue so long as you do everything right.

You won't be able to retain the series registration though, its a Disco with a rebody, not a series with a different chassis/engine/gearbox/axles/suspension/etc etc

yeah,
just wondering if there is a build diary of someone doing it to give me some idea.
i know what troubles may lie ahead, i built a 150bhp 1.8 k series mini last year and had all those problems, just be nice to see some photo's of what other people have done / found out.

cheers

Check out a 4 x4 is born, I forgot the guy who did it - he does it step, by step. Dosn't look difficult, but you'll need a good bit of cash AND a pretty serious setup....

MX

I believe the normal route for this is to use a RRC chassis with 12 inches cut out of the middle and a series rear x-member added, the series body then fits on with minor mods. My Lightweight has this configuration, its on a Q plate, so i suspect you may have to go down that route.

Easy job really.......... Luckily someother mug did mine!
