been looking around for a honest 90. Want ta spend between 5 and 7k , thought I would post ta see if anyone has anything for sale also I have been studying the cars on evil bay for a month or so, have seen a few cars come up that look like scams, seen the same car been put on 3 times by same seller buy it now in 3 different locations way underpriced and they ask for your mobile or email, can't see what the scam is but doesn't look right, anyway I have a grand vitara with low mileage would like ta trade in as I don't want ta be without a car if I can't will have ta save some more penny's

I'd avoid ebay. Try scouting locally, something you can actually go to look at. Too much try ons on ebay.

I'm looking to reluctantly sell my 90 truck cab but slightly over your budget but if your interested get in touch and I'll try get a photo or two to you.

Well I found a 1990 with the tdi engine in, already getting my hands dirty and finding this forum very helpful reading through old posts, replaced interior light, wiper unit was busted, flushed the heater matrix through and now getting a little heat and new set of tyres fitted today, since I brought it I am getting a bit of vibration coming from underneath, reading through old posts my first guess would be the ujs. Island 4x4 are close to me and do britpart complete props hafts, would it be better just to replace t he whole thing rather than the ujs,

Perzonally I just replace the UJ's with good quality gkn units.
Providing the sliding joint and the yokes are in good condition. Be careful of certain after market items from britpart/bearmach/allmakes.

Go for the OEM option when buying parts if you can afford to.

I've just bought a 90 with a vibrating front prop. I went and bought a new prop instead of just the ujs, but that's just my preference. My heater matrix has been bypassed, so no heat at all! Hope you enjoy your new purchase.

Brought 2 new complete shafts and wheel bearings for all round, hope this does it. Wished I had done a bit more research on here now before buying, just took there word that the 4whell drive all works, tried it out today and I could only get high ratio, nothing else not even neutral, took the metal plate from tunnel off and found the linkage was all wrong, someone had replaced the linkage Clevis pins with nuts and bolts so was fouling on the casingbodged it for time being and can now get high low and neutral but when I put the diff on I get no light, will jack one wheel up tomorrow to check properly if it is locking, I hope it is. Don't think this is the last of my problems,

Agreed - IME, steer clear of Br*tpart "stuff" - especially anything which rotates. OEM (Timken) wheel bearings are as cheap as chips, and the blue boxed ones are IMHO rubbish. rubbish which you rely very heavily on.

Changed my uj's on my 90 a couple of weeks ago and sorted clunk. Save your money for other things rather than new props. I need swivels and brakes doing at some point soon. You will need other things, too..

If you mean the actual chrome swivels you might be cheaper keeping an eye out for a used Discovery axle that's already got teflon coated swivels, mine was eighty quid complete:D

That might be a good shout, Marmaduke. A kit with all the bearings etc is about £100, If I used the Disco front axle I assume my front wheel, which are off a Disco, wont need the thick spacers anymore

Correct, I bought a front and rear for eighty quid each and sold my spacers on eBay for £110 so I had 24spline axles and disk brakes all around for fifty sheets :D

Direct swap? Props etc or does it need a bit of tinkering?
Both are pretty much direct swap. Front axle needs the brake pipes tweaking as they connect forwards of the spring on a Disco whereas it's to the rear on a defender. The yolk on the rear axle needs to be replaced as a Disco is a three bolt pattern and a defender is a four. All pretty simple and straightforward though
