Hi Guys,

Just bought a fron axle form a breaker who said it came of a 1996 defender. I wanted to take it all apart so that I could prepare it for painting. Just got to the hub nut and I am confused. I thought the hub nu had a flat washer with a lip that bent over the nut to prevent it backing off. I have fount this one with no flat washer but it looks like the nut itself is pressed flat on one side. How do I remove this?

Get yourself a thin chissel and bend it back somewhere where it will clear the threads , undo it as normal , then bin the but and buy new nuts ( 2 per side ) and flat locking washers ( x2 ) .
Done the same on the farther-in laws TD5 .

I did look at that and tried to have a go but stopped just in case I was not doing it right. I figured if I bent this back I would have to replace the nut. I will give it a go cheers,
