Hi all,

I'm looking at a 95 P38SE on thurs, I've run a HPI check and all ok except for one issue.
It states (V5) the vehicle is grey, yet advert and pics clearly show its black?? I spoke to the HPI company who have in turn spoken to the DVLA and no recorded changes of colour have been made. Its had 4 previous owners so surely one of them would of picked up on this?? I know its not unheard of for the DVLA to make Colour/Model/VIN mistakes on the V5, did RR come in a charcoal black/grey colour?? Or is this something I need to be concerned about (cut/shut??) I'll obviously check the history to see if its had a paint job, just wondering if there's any other advice or if anyone else has experienced this??

Cheers

I have stopped a RR that had a different colour, than that was shown on PNC... the driver did however produce a recent receipt from a paint shop for the re-spray, there is a time limit to advise DVLA for the colour change,, not sure how long though?.. have a look at their web site.. plus ask the direct question to the seller. they may have just cut and pasted another RR for the advert as they had no pictures..??

Shouldn't there be a plate on the car somewhere which gives the colour code? This would tell you the original colour.

Maybe it's just that one man's black is another man's dark grey..........

Grey or black? what colour does the seller say it is?
1995 LAND ROVER RANGEROVER 2.5 DT GREY on eBay (end time 26-Sep-10 22:51:55 BST)

The plate with VIN & paint code etc is just above the N/S headlight.

Mine is dark blue, however photgraphed in certain lights you would swear it was black.

Its advertised as Metalic Black, I'll ask all the relavent questions and check the SH when I view it on Thursday, I was just wondering if anyone else had experience in this.
Is there a chart somewhere I can check the colour coding off the VIN plate??

Thanks for your replies.

I won't know the VIN until I see the Rover on Thurs, the seller is on holiday until Weds! I can call the HPI company and do a VIN check over the phone with them.

Thanks for the offer mind :)

Just spoke to the dealer, he said the colour could be seen as a dark possibly graphite grey, but its what he would call black, there's no mention of a respray in the SH, so my question is, basically can it be trusted???

any feedback welcomed,

Thanks

if youre looking at a p38 you have bigger worries ahead than a grey/black argument.

photos can make greys, greens and some blues look black. my guess is the seller didnt check the v5 and advertised it as what he saw.

Bigger worries???

Well if it's a V8, headgaskets or slipped liners, plus the usual P38 woes of life expired air suspension bags, worn compressor etc not to mention leaking heater "O" rings and leaking aircon condensors.
Just to give you a taste of the joys of P38 ownership:D Still a great car:D:D

Hmmm I'm now wondering if its gonna be worth the hassle?? Just out of interest, when I view it tomorrow, is there a number or anyone I can call with the paint code to confirm the colour?? Grey is a bit vague, could be anything from battleship to bloody gun metal??? Or a really dark almost black grey:confused::confused::confused:
