Hi there. Just thought I'd be polite and drop in to say hello. I'm not exactly new to LZ, but as I had a disco 2 before, I rarely ventured into this forum. I am now thinking of getting a freelander in the future, so I thought I'd have a quick look see at what was happening over here.
Be in touch with some questions and advice in the near future.;)

I know they get some stick, but we just want a second car, 4x4, auto that will be economical to run. I fugure I should be able to pick up a decent new ish one rather than an older disco 2 that I will end up doing the same work to that I did on the V8. That one went a while ago.

Thanks for the welcomes tho.

You have a choice of a Freelander 1 Td4 auto (only diesel auto option) or a Freelander 2 with auto if your budget runs to the higher price.

Cant run to series 2, shame though, dad's got one and its pretty impressive. I've seen a couple of face lifts so far and I think thats the way we will go, but its a bit early yet.

From what I've seen so far, the dreaded 3 amigo's seem quite popular (again!), as do some useful mods such as egr blanking. At the moment I'm trying to find out what IRD's are, what the issues seem to be with the diffs, and if there are any pitfalls I should be aware of when I eventually go look at one (apart from the usual things when looking at used cars).

I am a member of another forum, and there is a sticky for new members headed "Buyers Guide" where the more knowledgeable members have produced a list of specific things to watch out for. I was hoping there might be one for the freelander, but if there is, I can't find it. But nothing new there!
