Hi All Newbie here
Just taken a chance and bought a Rangie off that Ebay that needs some work doing check the sales pitch out below:
"We (seller) bought the car with a blown headgasket, and have since fitted another reconditioned engine, which comes with a receipt indicating a pressure test, skimmed heads, new bearings etc, and a three month warranty from date of purchase 19.02.10, BUT since reinstallation of this unit, we have experienced a few problems which I now havent got the time and more importantly inclination to go any further with, its taken tooo many of my weekends from me, and i've now lost heart, all I want is a simple life and a second car for the wife so when this sells we will be looking for an mgf or mx5 for the wife to use on sunny days.
The vehicle starts well, and runs very smoothly,at first but then as the engine warms up, what we can only describe as a noisy cam follower comes into play usually after a few minutes of tickover, also a blue smoke can be seen from the exhaust, this is usually worse after its been ticking over, but improves after a run.
A mechanical freind of mine has suggested its just "bedding in" but im not as convinced, and the thought of tearing it down to replace the followers, and possibly more, is more than I can stomach.
The engine upon reinstalation did have a slight misfire this went after replacing the plugs and leads, but, cylinders 2, 6 and 8 are fouling the plugs,(1,4,3,5,7 look great.) I did diagnose a leaking valley gasket originally so I replaced this, and resealed with hylomar, which reduced some of the blue smoke, having spoken to the engine builder he is pepared to look over my instalation to establish if the problem lies with my instalation, but i am unable to get the vehicle to him, as we sold our other rangie to fund the purchase of this one, he is based in lancashire which is approx 70miles from home and allthough the vehcile runs and drives,we have done approx 30miles in it, in short runs, I would rather not take it that distance.
It appears as though it would tick over all day long, and doesnt overheat, or show a warning light on the oil, the top rad hose can feel a little hard after a run, but this may just be as it is still a little air locked in the system"
I like to think honesty and not complete bollo**s
Has anyone got any ideas as to the problem and more importantly potential cost to put right.
Thanks
Chris
