Ah think ye need to take the heater box out, drill out the rivets (3 rivets are under the rubber seal), take off the cover, air duct and seal and lift out the matrix. Then ye need to fit the foam rubber to the casing and stick the new matrix in then check that the valve flaps are workin' without stickin' and rivet the top cover back on.

You do need to take the heater unit out of the vehicle. No drilling of rivets required on mine, all self tappers. Remove old matrix and fit new with foam. The heater unit top mounting screws are very awkward to get to. I think Mr Haynes recommends taking the bonnet off, but you can just about manage it without. Remember to line the plastic under-wing intake up before resecuring the unit to the bulkhead!
Hope this helps

Bonnet takes 10 seconds to get off and gives loads more room and light to work with.
Drill rivets and replace with self tappers if you dont have a rivet gun.
Make sure you get the right matrix as they come with different pipe connections. Horizontal or vertical.
