How to replace handbrake cable and loss of power.

Hi everyone im new on here.

My biyfriend has snapped the handbrake cables on my freelander as he yanked on it too hard.

We have 2 new cables for it but please can anyone explain to me how we go about changing them.

Also my freelander has no power and is using more diesel than it should.
We have changed the fuel filter which was dirty and have put a new one in as well as an oil change. We have had a garage look at it and they have looked at the fuel pump, taken it out and checked it( whatever that envolves) and put it back, they have suggested that we replace it but they arent sure it is the problem and I am loathed to put a new one on as they arent cheap if its not even the problem.

It doesnt stutter when you drive it so doesnt seem starved of fuel but is very slow, it takes a lot of revs before you can change gear and if I hit a hill it just dies and I end up having to dropit down to 2nd to get up.

I use it for towing my horse and at the moment it is struggling to tow the empty trailer, my horse is due to have her foal in a couple of months time and I need to find out what the problem is incase I need to get her to a vet in an emergency.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I cant afford to sell/ part ex or scrap it as the market for freelanders has gone through the floor where discoverys has shot up. Thanks.

It'll be hard to explane how to replace a hand brake cable over the internet. Best advice I can give you is to get a Haynes manual. There's a step by step explanation of how to replace them. Including pictures. Very handy! It's not a very hard job to do...

Well, if it's using more fuel then before, It doesn't sound like the fuelpump. It could be something simple als the oxygen sensor or dirty fuelinjectors. Sensor is easily replaced and the injectors can be cleaned by adding something to the fuel. The latter is a good idea whatever the problem is. When looking to fix this problem, I'd start with the cheap solutions first and work your way down. Could be a broken VCU as well. There are a couple of threats about how to check this on this board...
