How to measure suspension lift ?

I have a 1986 90 , it has 285/75/16 tyres and and I think it has about 2" of lift , but now sure as it sits quite high, from the ground to bottom of sill it measures just over 26" , does that sound right for 2" lift?

Best to measure from ground to top of wheel arch as most people will have some form of rock/tree slider and they are all different sizes

surely you'd want to measure between the top of the tire and the wheel arch as tyre pressure and size will have an effect on the distance.

I went from 205 80 16 to 235 85 16 tyres and that alone lifted my tratter two inches, now in the process of going to 265 75 16 and that's lifting it again.

Would you not be better measuring the spring height?

I would say measure between centre of axle hub and wheel arch and compare that to a landy with standard height springs. Maybe someone will be nice enough to measure theirs for you to compare? Mine's lifted otherwise I would

I just popped out with the tape, my 1990 Defender 90 with 235/85/16 tyres and a 2" lift measures:
Floor to underside of sill = 22.5"
Floor to lip of front wheel arch = 3ft
Centre of front wheel to lip of wheel arch = 21"

If your sill is 26" off the ground it'd be a hell of a lift! You'll have a bit more height in your tyres though.

You cant use the wheel arches to measure from as they are different heights the front are set higher than the rears.The only sure way is to measure from the bottom spring seat to the top spring seat,do it at the back of the springs. Mine has a bigger lift on the front to keep the gap between the arch and the tyre looking the same, the rear has 45mm and the front has 30mm.

So many opinions on how to measure the same thing! If you measure spring seat to spring seat you'd get different measurements for different weight vehicles or different weight springs.

I bet Defenders left the factory with different measurements but any of the above should give a rough idea of lift for the OP

I dont think it matters where you are measuring it if you just want to compare before and after on your own car, but when comparing between cars, floor to arch is so easy and clean.

Thanks for replies and measuring the heights, so I think I have about 4" suspension lift,
