OK... maybe this question reveals my staus as a landrover virgin :5bblush5:, but how can I identify which engine is in a defender? (You'll be able to guess that I'm at the very early stages of buying one)

I've read loads of posts on this forum arguing about which is best, but when I walk up to a 110, what do I look for in the engine compartment to tell me whether it's a 200TDi, 300TDi or a TD5 if it's at a non-specialist dealer who probably doesn't know much about it?

I've ordered the haynes manual and "You and Your Land Rover Defender" as recommended in another thread, but neither book has arrived yet and I'm itching to go and start my education by looking at a couple of defenders this weekend...

Thanks!

only engines that look simillar are the 200 and 300 - 200 air intake is on the near side 300 is on the off side
