if you have to move the crane with the lump suspended , let it down as close to the ground as possible , then its less likely to topple over, if it does it aint got far to go and will do less damage,...try and arrange things so your moving chassis rather than a loaded crane. id use three chains .. easy to adjust lengths to get an even level lift... rope as second best

Sod that, do it the easy way

Morning guys, maaaaaan that was an interesting hour lifting my 200! Picked up the hoist in the morning from HSS, didn't look bad, set it up, worked out where to put rope and strap (ended up using a really hardcore lorry ratchet strap so we had a bit of adjustment) and then went to lift, nothing.....rang a club member, turns out to be same one he rented, which struggled to lift a 200tdi without gearbox....great. Figured we needed to get it done, so I stood at back, lifting the gearbox, while the hoist held the front, got it out, swung it round, dropped onto new chassis, job done!! Did have to drop the old chassis really low and take the coils off the new one to get low but wasn't a problem in the long run!

Will stick up some pics a bit later, but cheers to everyone for the advice....and yes, a strop would have been rubbish, tried sizing it up to start with and it really wasn't happening!
