How to decipher VIN numbers for parts

Well, how to?? please

Been looking for a tank sender unit for the 90 and the add says will fit vehicles with VIN numbers between
AA243343
to
WA159806

My VIN number is nowt like that, it goes something like

SALL DVAC7FAC *****

It means the last part. So I assume the end of yours will be AC123456. Cross refer with the range of VIN numbers the part will fit and if yours is within that range then voila

Aha..

So because mine is AC which alphabetically is after AA and before the other one (WA) then it will fit

Why don't they just say the one with the fuel tank under the seat box

Cos there's different sender units depending on if you've got three wires or two
