hi guys, my radio has packed up in my p38, it has the hardon kardon clarion stereo in it, i know the standard one is great, but i wanted to fit my tv dvd stereo instead. has anyone fitted a new unit without any hassle, i recently found a radio adaptor off the internet that was easy to fit to my p38 but when i connected it i got some feedback through the speakers. it came with pre out front and rear, and two earth wires but when i connected the earths i still got feedback, is there an easier way to connect a new stereo? i did go and see a guy that aparently knows what he is on about but i didnt trust him when he said i would have to replace all the speakers and run it off a separate amp for it to work, any help i would be gratful. thanks in advance.

Yep you have to rewire all the speakers unless you get the Harmon recond

thanks for the reply but i have now fitted new stereo and working perfect, without changing the speakers and got rid of the intereference. one of the wires in the iso was not staying in properly on the adaptor. i had to throw that adaptor in the bin it was too quite even at full volume, not happy paid £18 for it. just bought a 8 pin male iso connector and moved the power and hay presto fixed and working perfect no interference. thanks for your reply but to anyone out there that has been told to rewire your speakers and amps please be advised i will be posting a rough guide on how to do. and thanks to everyone that has helped me in the past.

Hi Dave
Now that you have the new radio fitted is the sound louder as my standard radio isnt very loud at full volume. I will be interested in your post if it makes the radio louder.

Thanks Craig

This is why you should have your speakers rewired to a new amp and into your new stereo.

Otherwise "It don't have the power"

Got my system done at Bass Junkies in Wolverhampton.

Alpine touchscreen
Ipod interface
DVD player
10 Disc Cd changer
750w Amp
Television on two back screens
Video on back screens
DVD on 3 Screens
Sounds through speakers or headphones for the rear screens

Great firm
Car done in 1 1/2 days

hi just a quick note. you dont have enough power because you were going through the pre outs just like i did with the adaptor that i bought. like i said if you have a powerful stereo which most new ones already are then this is not a problem i first wired my kenwood mask into the car and hey presto. the thing is you dont have to get a new amp because the speakers are amped themselfs, you just have to power the amps on through your own head unit.

hi chabrolly yes i managed to wire the sub as well i just connected them to the rear speakers for now. it is very clear and sounds even better with the new head unit, not that the original was bad but with the new stereos these days have graphic equalizers already built in. i have fitted my new dvd tv head unit in at the weekend so i am really happy with the result.

thanks garioch, looks like that was what i needed in the first place, i made one of them up from scratch, but due to me putting a dvd, tv, freeview it is not the same connection so i no longer require one.

Another newbie here wanting help for the same thing!!!:)
Just picked up a '97 hse with a busted head unit:( ,Would like to get a replacement original only so it uses all the harmon kardon kit.................but................if anyone (i.e. Dave38)can advise on how to wire a standard fit head unit in it would be much appreciated(by more people than you probably realise!!)

ALSO..........is that lead any good!!! If it works as it says its prob' worth the 30quid!!!!

Cheers in advance for all the answers this is going to recieve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D

Off to waste another gallon!!!!

Ok after days of research into this, this is what I came up with hope it helps.

If you have a p38 with the harmon kit in, there is no lead that you can buy that will keep the subwoofer, cd stack and steering wheel controls, all you can do is keep the door speakers using any third party lead.

If you want you get the lights on the radio after failing to put in the code or it hangs on the numbers your best bet is just to get it de-coded and a new number put in anywhere from 20-80 quid I was quoted. Wasted hours going to a dealer with no luck. (I used 001 stereo hersham surrey 001 Mobile) This saves alot of time.

You might be able to get the head reconditioned from Clarion (presuming it is the clarion and not the alpine)

To do this get in contact with Clarion It will cost you 20 quid I think to find out but at least you will know for sure if it is knackered or sommit easy Clarion Service

An alternative to the lead on ebay is from these guys, but again you loose everything. Nexxia Audio Solutions - Perfect Solutions for Quality Sound

I would definatly try and get is reconned before loosing some of the best bits in the car.

Hope that helps.

Hello Dave,
I'm just about to start chaniging my Alpine head unit for a DVD player. Did you get round to posting your rough installation guide? I'd be very interested in reading it.
