How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

OK just been out to do a quick test on the P38 - as much out of curiosity as anything

Used the Nanocom to clear RF buffer
Showed no code received
Used the RF remote fob
Showed code received
Cleared again
no code

etc etc

So it does seem to reliably store and report any valid Fob codes received.

I will see if it logs any with the car (and fob) unused for 24hrs.....

Cheers,

Jerry

i had the same thing after leaving the car for a day the battery was totaly flat i just disconnected the blue wire from the rf receiver been fine since (famous last words):D

Yes i did have problem with r/f unit from island 4x4. the first one i received definately didn't work. the second they supplied only worked with the fob right up next to the ariel on the back window.so again i thought this was faulty. and in fairness they refunded to me for both. But now not totally sure second one was faulty. i have as i said been running on the old r/f with blue wire disconected. However after advice and after having to have new door mechs fitted. i decided today to go out and get new main dealer supplied R/f. ater fitting however i now have to hold the fob close to the rear window for it to work.:mad: so now have situation where either use old one with blue wire off fob works from about 4/5 feet. risk other problems or new r/f fob only works about foot away. but hopefully no problems. The latter being the option iv'e chose. but can't see this being right. have checked connections, everything seems ok. going to have another go tommorow. any sugestions anyone.:confused:

First things first I guess - Have you checked the other end of the blue wire to make sure it is properly connected to the window and that there are no breaks in the wires in the window itself? It does sound like yours is behaving as though antenna is always disconnected...

Think your antenna may be duff. (Bad connection etc.)
Try and use the old rf with and without antenna just to check the distance where the fob works.
I use my old rf without antenna connected and it only works right next to rf or 6-8 inch away

Beaten to it...

I reckon you need to be very careful buying an RF receiver off fleabay.
The above part number is correct:)

yup, you're right, but it was from a dealer and in a genuine box :)

Didn't know you rode bikes too DT. I bought my RR to tow my bikes to the track.

Thanks for the input fellas going to have another look at it all tommorow, but antenna appears ok and as i said with old r/f in and blue wire connected i can use the fob from yards away, even with blue wire disconected can still use fob from few feet so it would appear the antenna is ok! i'm going to check all connections tommorow so see then.

All gone now regretably, can't afford the insurance. Used to tour Europe every year. Got less and less use out of the bike after I moved to France, too much work and no time. Have raced in my youth:D
I had an FJR after the VFR but it's the VFR I miss, should have kept it for track days at La Val de Vienne circuit.

Ah, a biker too! I know what you mean about lack of time, other than an annual few days touring mine used to get very little use.

Most recent bike was a KTM 950 SM, utterly brilliant. I plan to get another at some point, hopefully fairly soon.....

In the last 18 months I have bought 3 bikes in the UK and sold here in France, for a significant profit every time - more than covers all running costs including insurance... that is the way to do it :) The only real issue is finding something interesting less than 106bhp so it can be registered here without modification, increasingly difficult these days!! I had planned to do the same thing with the P38 (sell on at a profit) but I like it too much and it is too useful for towing, so I decided to keep it.... and needless to say it has already cost me a fortune! So much for that idea......

[sorry about the thread drift]

Cheers

Jerry
