How much Waxoyl for my 90???

I was just wondering how much Waxoyl I will need to do my 90?

You can buy a gallon, thats more than enough, if the chassis is nice and clean with no rust then it should do some good if it aint then it will just lay on the rust and it still eats away underneath.

Unfortunatly it doesnt penetrate, so I have been spraying my disco with auto trans oil then a blast with the waxoyl. At the minute is seems to be working.

Well the chassis is in good shape. And looking good for its age. But it needs some tlc.
And this is my 1st Landy and the first time I have done this. I wont to do a good job that will last.
So the plan is this:
1. A good clean down. jet wash/steam clean and with as much wire brushing as my drill can take.
2. Then some areas a few coats of POR-15. With Hammerite over the top.
3. Finally a good spraying of Waxoyl.

Hopefully that will do the job.

I have a merc sports that I have had since new, 9 years, and hoped to keep it for a while, but I cant keep the rust out of it. Took the stay bars for the body off, ground them down rust treated them and then two good coats of hammerite. A year later and they were rusted to death again, they just rusted under the paint, probably worse in actual fact.

Its slowly rusting away to death and I wonder if its actually worth the hassle.

In relation to the landie, spray the bastid with oil and waxoyl it a few days later. Spend your time watching the tv or sitting in the pub coz its gona rust anyway, and all the grinding in the world aint gona stop it.

You might have a chance if you sand blast it and galvie it, but then all the other bits rot off it.

Arnt you a little ray of light.....

if i were you i wouldn't use waxoyl its nasty and the mot tester will hate you for it! cause it gets everywhere and makes a right mess

and it seems to hold water under it

if you are treating it then painting it i would leave it at that unless you have a compressor and a schutz gun

The mot tester can like it and lump it. He is no friend of mine.
I can get a compressor and guns throw a friend.

more like a thunderbolt of doom, even keeping it in a garage causes it to rust and worse because no air is circulating, everybody has tried to stop rust and there is fokal product out there that stops it.

Skoot the fokir with a shuuts gun and you wont see any rust for a few years until an outrigger that rusted under it falls off.

Sometimes the truth hurts, if yur an ugly fat bastid then no point telling you otherwise, might have a personality tho and I guess you could focus on that, talk to your landie, give it a name even.;)

I remember my brother putting waxoyl on a mini that was painted with hammerite years ago and all the waxoyle just ran off it. We did it by the book too, followed instructions, let the hammerite cure propoerly and everything, so I think that the two are not compatible directly, unless they have changed the formulation. It took my brother weeks to get the wax off the drive.

I have found the best combination is to use Waxoyl in the concealed parts are treating the exposed area with Rust Bullet. See this months mini magazine where both these products came out tops.

The ONLY way to stop rust is to dig a very large hole in the ground, fill it with oil, (remove the seats etc.) and put the landy in it, under the oil - Slightly inpractical - but it works - make sure you block up the air intake and exaust pipe mind you!

You could plastic dip the entire vehicle.probably weigh about double tho, and the yanks have a method of spraying a coating onto rusty stuff and its like plastic and twice as strong.

Hmm rust bullet. 'tough coating with phenomenal adhesion.' The whole speil sounded a bit like a beauty product advert, Dont get me wrong i am sure it works, certainly sound like it does. I have spent the last few days brushing, scraping, grinding and mainly moving the **** from my chassis into my clothes, hair and beard. gettin it ready for a thourghly good coating of waxoyl.
I hear the comments on 'sealing the moisture in' and that but unless i store it in a vat of silica gel for a week, i dont know what else to do.

A wise old defender owner once told me, when i commented on his chassis;
'I know, every year, before winter, when i do an oil change, i mix the oil with a bit 'o' diesel, and give her a dam good soaking, and i never had a problem' he imparted.

So I conclude. my days working on my chassis, philosophizing i think; you can never eliminate rust, to do so would surely mean something else would only take its place and be far more annoying. you can only hinder its progression.....and soak the ****er in oil..and make it work for its bloody lunch! AAAAAH RUST!, you will never beat me. I AM MAN! I will never lose! I will prevent you merciless onslaught by an means at my disposal.....
like waste oil. That save me a trip to the recycle center.:D

Don't listen to the naysayers mate, just go for it and see how it works for you.
Naysayer of the year even said it was with a Merc and not a landie he had the probs so there's mud in the eye ;)

Rust can be dealt with. As long as the wheels keep on churning and moving while the chassis stays strong you'll be fine. :)
