Has anyone painted your landy with a brush / roller?

How much paint did you use?

Bin told a litre will do a full landy (90) but it doesnt seem that much to me???

Sounds about right from when i looked into it. that will likely only be 1 external coat though. so realistically 2 litres and if your doing the inside panels another 0.5L/coat.

I would aim to buy more than you need because each batch will be slightly different. So say you buy "nato green" from one place and want to touch up 12 months later, not only will your original paint lose its "lustre" but matching it up will be difficult. roll only mil. surplus paint varies from place to place and batch to batch.

Cheers for that mate!

Just ordered a 2.5l tin to be safe and like you said itl come in handy for touch-ups and what not!

At the mo its a dark blue (See my profile pic) Im just going to ruff the old paint up (To give it somet to stick to) and paint straight over the blue with matt nato green!

Im not that bothered if it turns out darker than it should by painting straight onto the blue, but do you think it will?

when hand painting, any advise on how much you have to strip the car down both paintwork and gear....or do you mask things up. I have loads of bubbling and will be looking to do something in a few months, ta

Time spent on prep is seldom wasted - cure all the bubbling and have a smooth surface before you add the top coat as any blemishes will show through.

As for stripping it really depends whether you have the space and time. Stripping the landy to spray it will take time and involves a lot more messing than spraying it whilst it is assembled.

I hand painted mine last summer.... I took all the bits off and used a sander to get rid of most of the blistering taking it down to the metal. I used a grey etch primer that dried in 30 minutes. The etch primer is an option to paint onto bare aluminium and using a good brush it went on okay.
I tried a roller but it didn't work for me so for the top coat I used a brush. It came out tidy enough for me. Still have plenty left for touch ups and I dont worry about marking it on bushes etc.... I can touch up anytime.
I can see brush marks on it.... but as my old man used to say... 'A man on a golloping horse wouldn't notice':) I did the roof as well in Alpine White...I did just one coat of each, touching up any missed bits when dry. I did thin the top coat down a touch as it was a little thick for brushing. Dont use cheap thinner, ask the paintshop who make it up what to use. I got 2 ltrs gloss and 1 litre primer. No primer left but a bit still have some blue

Did you use the paint strate from the tin or did you thin it down?

Just i read someone had thinned it down? Is that just when you use a sprayer?

I thinned my paint down 10% before I brush painted it. I tried a 'test coat' on the inside straight from the tin... suggest you do the same as you cant thicken it again... take the advice of whoever made the paint up for you.
