How much have you spent restoring your Series?

Dear Big Matt,

I spent £450 for my SIII (plus travel to the South and diesel back to the North)

The other day I spent a G on a new galvanised chassis.

I will probably spend the best part of another G by the end of June.

But it will be all worth it as I am doing the work myself so the money is all being spent on parts.

Mine is for keeps and I will drive it as an everyday ride then it will be shipping it to the Tropics.

Yours,

Matt.

Ps. Power steering is not my cup of tea, I like the fight.

Yeh thats my plan to restore one for when i turn 17, i'm going to need to cart straw and hay and feed sacks around because i keep a couple of goats and chickens and ducks so i might as well get something thats practical for that.

insurance wise those animals could save your ass. i am unsure of the exact guidelines but if you were to classify your house as a small holding. by cramming a couple more chickens in the coop you could get agricultural insurance, rather than regular

Insurance for a defender is not as bad as everyone says, pre licence mine is £800 a year, but afterwards about £900-1000 which in the grander scale of 17yr old insurance is actually pretty good...

I have just had a look to see what has come out of the bank directly related to getting Clyde back on the road.

My total so far (includes purchase and transportation) £1576.72
I have to say that I didn't have to buy front and rear land rover badges, stainless floor screws twin horns etc but once you have started it is hard to stop.:scratching_chin:

series ownership is more like marriage as you gotta love it to put up with all of the crap that goes with it !

2a 109 £720
200 Tdi £200
Gearbox £20
Front axle £50
Paint £30
More hours than I care to think about
Pulling a Landcruiser out of a field..........priceless :D

Hi all,

Was just wondering how much you have spent restoring your series land rovers?

I'm hunting down a series to restore at the moment so lets hear how much its cost you to give me a rough idea.

Nearly 20 years ago I spent £3.5k on parts, did all the work myself, I have no idea if I did a good job 'cos some bastard nicked it 7 weeks after I finished it :(

Just added;

Alternator and pulley - £69
Flowmaster Exhaust - £89
4 Monroe premium shocks (old new stock) - £77
2 bump stops from ****part - £5.40
Alternator belt - £2.80

and a ****load of Hammerite - £40 ish

Then I'm gonna have to pay for an MOT and pre MOT service oh and some mandrel bends for the exhaust so I can fit the exhaust right and a new thermostat or whatever it is thats messing up my temp gauge. Plus I'm buying a RR classic dash to put in it as well as a new custom checker plate interior and sound proofing/heat insulation
