Evening folks..

Just come back from Somerset with my td4 2001 ...
I pulled a caravan which i enjoyed , only thing i am concerned about is how much diesel i used...
Distance was about 200 miles , going there its cost me about £55 and on the way back it cost £40 ... do u think this is normal as i thought more to the gallon with a diesel. Could i be burning fuel from somewhere ?

With about 55 quid of diesel ( full tank ) i got about 305 miles ??????

Thanks for your reply's

Alan ....

£55 > 305 miles
roughly 52L diesel =11.64 gallon = 26mpg
Thats about normal for mine in heavy traffic so not bad when towing a caravan .

Totally depends on all up weight and traffic conditions, figures are meaningless without facts.

'tis a reasonable figure for towing a caravan, generally get about 315 miles out of my td4 auto for £50 of fuel, but round town fully laden, with ladders on the roof

My L series does 400 miles to the tankful and about 300 with the pikey wagon on the back. Mind you, I've realised that thrashing the pants off it to get similar acceleration as when not towing just aint worth it. The amount of juice you burn is directly related to how far you push that pedal down and for how long you keep it there. Keeping the power down not only saves fuel it also keeps the engine temperature in check. Also I hardly notice I've towed the van when I drive like this when considering the miles per tankful.

It says in the front of the Autotrader that if you drive at 56 mph on the motorway you use 25% less fuel than you would at 70mph.
Now I know why my L-series is so economical:p

i'll be off to southern italy with me caravan 1300 kg and what ever gets loaded in it towing it with my 2000 td4 synergy 2 fitted, egr bypass, pierburgh maf and jetex air filter would be intresting to compare figures. i will post mpg mid september and before anybody asks yes i have got BREAKDOWN cover

Wind direction has been coming from SW for most of the time old chap. You probably had a head wind on the way down and tail wind on return ;)

Hi
Mine varies a lot depending on how you drive it and wind conditions ie head winds will second that it depends on how much you push it on as they will cope with all conditions but it does pay to go easy on the throttle fab tow car though :D
