How high a lift

Hi lads,I know every body says 2" lift is as much as you can go safely with just replacing the springs and shocks without having to fit castor correction gear,so heres the thing I was just "wondering" how high you really can go with just the springs,I'm using a hd +2" springs with old man emu gas shocks(which are excellent) its a 300 tdi with ARBs,there still seams to be plenty of room before the ARBs start catching,I'm not talking about lifting it another 3 or 4 inches but say just another inch, also is it possible just to lift the front a little extra just to counter act the extra weight on the front with HD bumper, winch and highlift bolted on the bonnet, the nose is sitting a lot lower than the arse(I know they do that a bit anyway)if anybody has any thoughts good or bad I am all ears, cheers

Erm, four things :

1. I've never done this, although I understand the theory.
2. There's probably a very good reason why everybody says 2" is the max.
3. If you've bolted extra weight to the front, you need STIFFER springs to compensate, not taller ones (ride attitude should remain stock unless you understand the implications of the change and if you just change spring height not spring rate you'll get all sorts of nasty behaviour in the bends).
4. Have you ever seen a pig on a rollerskate? Throw the suspension geometry out of whack and that's how it will handle.

It sounds to me like you need a chat with a specialist. A proper sit-down chat about what you're trying to achieve and how the vehicle will be kitted-out and used. Don't try to do this on the cheap as getting it wrong can be dangerous, for others as well as yourself.

Getting it right, of course, can be a real joy.

I sit and await correction from the knowedgeable ones.

That's correct if it's sitting low at the front because of extra weight you need stiffer springs.

Hi lads thanks for the replys,I'm sorry when I say sitting low it's not rubbing the arches or anything like that I'm using new +2" HD springs and expensive old man emu gas shocks along with 32" tyres but I feel there should be more space between the arch and the tyre,I think the best thing is i will stick some pics on the thread and then see what you think
