How fast do these things go? 300Tdi

Probably covered somwhere but i tonight after all the work ive done gave the old girl a good thrashing a 300Tdi with 125K On her AUTO, well after a while and getting the turbo working i actually got over 115mph now i know the speedo may be a BIT out but have any other guys actually tested this i'd be interested to find out, she was sat at about 5000k revs and i only stayed there for a minute but she was quite smooth i may if its dry 2 moro take the cossie out and get a better reading against her.
I did find that at about 85 she was at her best and really pulled hard up to 95/100mph.
To add on the rear left alpine has started leaking !!!! FFS

The 300TDI has a top speed of about 91 mph.

If you were really doing 5000k revs then you had serious power slip. At five million rpm you should have been doing about 950 mph.

Put a sat nav in her and do the speed run again. The only thing I can think is you probably have non standard wheels and tyres and its thrown the spedo out of wack cos 115mph is about 20mph above manufactures stated figures. Either that or the injection pump has been tweeked up.

I thought that, My speedo must be way way out unless i have performed a miricle on her !!!!!! but and this is a big BUT it felt quicker than 90ish it felt about the ton , wifey has agreed to come out 2 moro with the escort and test it so i will update then ,
She does have a sticker in the Cossie saying "Run on Fairy dust" so it may have rubbed onto the Disco...................

ere what road you going to be doing this "test" on - i'm sure yer local plod will be appy to give numptys like you who seem to think they've gorra sports car a nice ticket and a few points

Never been above 80 in mine an thats on motorways.... since av had one my style of drivin ths become mor sedate...

anythin above 56mph feels fast to me these days .... cant go faster see ... unless i'm goin down windy hill loaded .... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

I think the figures stated are optimistic to say the least but then again ...... you never know

Wouldn't drive mine that fast .......... think the fastest i've gone in her is 75 ish and that was scarey enuff thank you kindly

Disco's are a big lump if they get outta shape at ANY speed (especially if they got M/T's fitted like mine has) and not at all like a Cossie at speed ........ and yes i DO speak from experience .......... replaced RS with Land Rover ....... best move i ever made

Meny years ago a had R5GTT, that wis fast an a wis younger.....
Plus ye see moor when ye go slow,,, and tae coin a phrase,"it's an adventure"....

My TD5 Auto once kept up an indicated 104mph on Autobahn, including uphill, but it didn't like it much - evidence of a few coolant leaks and it MAY have contributed to the head problems I had later. I doubt if a TDi could match that though.
Remember that 100mph plus in UK = more or less automatic loss of licence. Can you afford a chauffeur?

i spent 3 years racing 125cc rotax max karts, then 3 years drag racing a 500hp subaru........never would i dream of taking my 2.5ton disco over 80mph.....

that would be a tad worrying....

had mine about 105 and that was absoloutly caning it down the m6 at 4am, seems to run faster on veggie as only ever got 85max on diesel

i must agree with him on the 115 mark as i have ahd that on a set of 205 r16 scorpoins, wouldnt do it on the off road tyres for saftey as they will disintegrate and even if they do last no matter what yer do to the engine it wont make it upto that speed.
i have spent alot of time and money on my engine to do it though, before it would only reach the tonne mark.
what have you dont to your engine???
also yer can get these tdi lumps to rev upto just under 6k if yer do it right.
but to get a lump like these over what you claiming your gonne be talking the best part of 300bhp plus to beat the wind resistance alone.

I've had 95 out of a 200tdi disco but the speedo was saying 105 actually it was bouncing from 70 to 105. but the sat nav said 95 coming down the big hill from Leeds to Manchester on the M62. 05:00 on a Sunday Morning

probably wouldnt fuel the revs it was doing red.

It wasn't something I'd do to often the fooking thing was all over the place. and shaking like an epileptic. But you have to know what it'll do don't ya.

its gonna hugly vary on mechanical condition, when it come to performance the slightest things matter.
