I'm going to swap my column for a 48 spline one and I've undone all the bolts I can see, but how do you get the thing out?

I've done a search but can't seem to see anything definitive..

Cheers

Have you removed the UJ and clamp bracket in the engine bay?

Have you moved the master cylinder out of the way?

Have you removed the 6 bolts from the pedal mounting box?

... And that's just for starters!

Have you removed the stay that holds the top of the column to the bulkhead?
It connects to the column directly behind the speedo and bolts to a lug on the bulkhead above the vent-flap adj the wiper-box.

The dash is out and the nut has been removed from inside.

Why would the master cylinder and peddle box need removing?

Also would the column come out through the inside or out of the engine bay?

Thanks for the replies.

.....and it all becomes clear..

Guess I may as well take the master cylinder out and renew some brake pipes while im at it. The list gets longer. Thanks for the tips.

Done! What a pita.. Can be done but as previously said the brake master cylinder and pedal need to be unbolted and pushed out of the way. That's half a job off the list :)

holy thread resurrection batman.....

I have this job to do :( - trying to get my head round what i need to do so i can plan my time off when i get home.

i guess the full list goes like -

shroud off , dash out ,
drill out steering lock shear bolts
remove brake pedal box (i need to change my servo and master cylinder anyway so i guess i can do that at same time)
remove the steering ujs
remove steering wheel
remove switch gear
undo the tie back strut from the bulkhead
undo the lower bearing support
remove column ,
reverse for assembly ?

Any tips ? any projections on time (bearing in mind this was all assembled less than 8 months ago so unlikely to encounter stuck bolts - wish id just renewed the column then !

What a mother****ing crap job......

New columns in though ! Just the dash to reassemble

New servos - glad i did that out of the car for access to the clevis, just the master cylinder to fit and brakes to bleed.

Garage door to fit.

Tidy garage.
