I'm new to all things mechanical so I've never had to find parts as I've always just left it to the dealership to sort out. How do you know what you're getting if you get second hand parts or is it better just to buy new?
I'm planning on getting a replacement steering box but 700 quid seems a hell of alot of money although at least I'd have the piece of mind knowing that it's a new, official LR part.
Are there places on the web where people buy and sell parts?

hi, there s a co in sowerby bridge, west yorks, who breaks landrovers been doing it for years, ex landrover dealer mechanic knows absolutely everything and will give technical advise free

It was a serious question. I've never been interested in anything remotely mechanical. Sports cars didnt interest me as a kid and I've only got into mechanics becouse I want to learn how to maintain a landy. I'm a bit of a survivalist you see,;) so a Defender seems like the way forward.
My dad was an engineer and my uncle used to race and now organises the Montecarlo rally so obviously I turn out to be mechanically inept with no sense of direction...:(
Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna see if I can join some kind of local club and see if I can befriend an entheusiast who's part of the "network".;)

I know most people hate em and they do sell some crappy stuff but for everyday bits and pieces and reasonable service (shoot me down!!!) paddocks and craddocks are OK.

i got a 2nd hand power sterring box for £40 (fitted for about 50 ithink) from avenger 4x4 peterborough. (or i think paddocks r ok for things)
