hi all

Think i've got an air leak (car right down at the back on one side)

how do i get access to the air bags to check for a leak? (2000 (X) TD5 - 7 seater)

(is it any easy job to replace them if i find the culprit?)

cheers

Wilf

thanks Jim

i've got a bigger problem now though as thre car won;t start
I have an Xreg 2000 TD5 7-seater, auto.

All I get on turnover is a load of chattering rleays and the dashboard lights up like a fiary (Traction control, ABS, Sus0pension lights and auto modes (M&S)

i presume a failsafe has kicked in as the car has been parked for a few days on the drive with the drivers side rear right down on the arch.

any ideas how i can get the thing started

cheers

Hi Wilf, I know this may sound a little like grandma sucking eggs but have you recharged the battery. I phaffed around one Sunday changing the rear wiper motor on my 99 TD5 -you know chillin' with Radio 2 Elaine Paige Sounds from the musicals, testing the wipers, doors open (Int lights on)........battery yelling submit. WhenI went to start, got all the same symptoms - though'wipers still operating so battery fine...quack quack oops...following a jump started fine.

cheers shaun - the battery is on charge as we speak!!!

do you know how easy it is to get at and change the rear air springs? (i presume you get at them from underneath!)

cheers

Hi Wilf, I'm still summoning up the motivation to just to get underneath and start. I'm pretty satisfied that the job is not one requiring any great knowledge just standard home mechanic skills and a standard tool kit!! May try as soon as I get a new air spring from e-bay!!!

i've ordered an air spring from Island 4x4 for £81.99 inc. next day delivery - seems to be £15 cheaper than ebay. my local parts shop quoted me £215!!

it should arrive tomorrow and i'm going to try and fit it straight away - i'll let you know how i get on

btw - the dealer said the common mistake that people make is letting the axle drop when fitting the top of the spring into the clips - this overstretches the bag and it snaps! he reckons just keep the axle propped up to avoid overstretching it

cheers
