Hi everybody.

Could somebody offer some advice please? I'm about 3/4 of the way through dismantling a driver seat from a Disco 1. I've hit a snag in the fact that I can't find out how to remove the upper head restraint pieces in order to remove the rest of the seat material. Is there a hidden screw/bolt/other fixing? I have looked in the RAVE manual but it is not shown in there :(

Cheers.

Kevan

Think you have to take the cover off the back of the seat as much as you can and the head restraint bits are boltel on. I once started taking one to bits but got bored with it after about a minute cos it was too much like hard work.

think the assembly sequence in the factory was place seat cover over top of seat back the fit Headrest and bolt it all up tight then fit seat back mesh/wires etc, then foam seat back then pull cover down and fasten it all into place. so in effect Headrest is the first thing to be fitted

That would be correct from what I can see. The only trouble is that the bolts are not bolts :( They are some sort of fastener but I cannot see how they come undone. There are no flats so a socket will not go on them. I suspect they are some form of self locking washer. The sort that is slide on one way but as soon as you try to pull them back the other way they grip the metal post. I have a photograph of them (I've took pictures of the whole dismantling procedure to make sure I can put it all back) and I'll try uploading it later.

Thank you.

Kevan

ps. the foam and springs are all in remarkably good condition considering the date stamp on the foam is July 1996. No sagging etc which I expected to find.

Here's a picture of the seat showing the type of fixed headrest that I am trying to uncover.

I'm going to try popping into Bushbury Land Rover's service centre later this morning to see if they can offer any advice too.

Thank you.

Kevan

ps. this is not my actual seat. I've pinched the picture off an eBay auction :)

Ok, so what used to be Bushbury Land Rover are now Stratstone. Waste of time that was. As soon as I said I needed some advice the guy said "don't buy a Land Rover." Great face for the business then! No really useful information either and the guy I saw started walking off as he was still speaking to me. Service at Wolverhampton 'Stratstone' Land Rover service centre is quite honestly appalling. I'll remember that.
