How do I clear the A/C drain(s)

Hi all,

Have had a prod about on here and have come to the conclusion my AC drains are blocked (hot water soaking left foot!).

But I can't seem to find out how to unblock them, can someone tell me please.

Also, I understand it's a quick job, but is it best done by a garage??

PS: I've a Disco series 2.

If you've got hot water soaking your left foot it sounds as though your heater or heater pipework is leaking.
Condensate off ac is usually cold about 5-8C.
Has the hot water got anti-freeze in it?

When my Tdi had blocked aircon drains, the water came out hot. It may be that the water backs up and flows over the heater matrix.

Clearing is easy, but very messy! It is done from under the car, and one of the drains is very close to the exhaust, so do it when the engine is cold.

Wear old clothes, - probably best to go topless as the blocked water WILL run down your arm! Watch your eyes as dirt WILL fall on your face! Crawl under the car just behind the front wheels. You should be able to see up into the tunnel in which the gearbox is located. On the sides of the tunnel, you should see a little bit of plastic shaped like a tiny wigwam, point down, which is probably caked in mud. This wigwam actually has cuts down the sides, and if removed and cleaned up, looks like a tiny squid! The idea is that the tentacles stop dirt going back up the tube, but dust can stick to the exiting water and block the whole thing up.

If you can find these little gizmos, you may find just wiggling the end will start the water flowing (down your arm or over your face!). To give them a good clean, just pull them down vertically, and they will come out together with the rest of the water. Give them a good clean and then re-insert.

Once you find them, it's a very easy (if messy) 5 minute job.

A pleasure to be able to help. We lived in Zimbabwe at the time, and with the dry dusty conditions there, we had to clear these every year or so!
