I have just bought a 53 plate Discovery 2. Changed the fuel filter as per the Haynes manual which advised that it would not need bleeding. Turned on ignition and waited until pump had stopped then started engine which ran for about 15 seconds before dying. Any clues please?

Hi

Ignition on, so dash is lit up. ( Not to the starting point)

Pump the throttle 5 to 6 times all the way to the floor, the EML light should flash on the dash and the pump will cycle on and off for a bout 5 minutes.

then try it.

Cheers

@Mouldboard,

welcome to the looneyzone by the way.

A couple of things about the D2.

Find or make a friend who has the correct diagnostics for it, nanocom or hawkeye.
Make sure you have the EKA code.
Download the RAVE workshop manual.

Enjoy driving it , they are good motors, If you need a hand shout out, not a bad bunch on here, Just do not post a techie question in anything goes forum..LOL

Cheers

Thanks, I'll make a note of the diagnostics and find a RAVE workshop manual.
If the EKA code is the one were you turn the key this way and that to clear the immobiliser I do have it.
Just going through it at the monent but looking foward to driving it soon.

Sounds good, have a search on here there are plenty of links to the RAVE manual download.
Yes the EKA code is the turn key immobiliser one, I suggest you check to make sure it works. They can be changed using diagnostics.

Where are you near in Oxfordshire? Townwise? If you are thinking of greenlaning or going off road there are a few good clubs around.

Cheers

Thanks, will do.
I am in the Abingdon area. I see you are in Oxfordshireness, anywhere near?
So far I have changed engine oil and filters, fuel filter obviously, brake fluid and waxed oiled the inside of the chassis. Still plenty to do!

I am up north near to Banbury area.
Sounds like you are cooking on gas.
Do not forget the Diffs, T Box and G box.
Does yours have a difflock?
Also check if it allows you to select HDC when in low? if not then the HI LO switch may have gone on the tbox, not a big job but a bit of a PITA and the switch is not cheap.

Are you going to go Greenlaning in it or is it just a road or tow vehicle?

Here is the link to RAVE.

Have the oil for the Tbox and diffs but have not sourced the main box oil yet, Texaco MTF 94?
Dont think it has diff lock. There is a plate by the lever but no sign of any sideways movement.
I am afraid I don't know what HDC is?
Probably not Greenlaning, nothing serious anyway. More defender territory? A certain amount of off road and a bit of towing.
At this rate it will be some time before I am on the road. I am unable to tax it yet as the previous owner had a cherished plate and a nice man at DVLA says there is nothing to be done until the new V5 gets back to the previous owner. Anyway gives me time to service it.
Thanks for the link to RAVE.

Not having any luck with the rave link I'm afraid. Lunar pages says that the account is unavailable. I am not a computer expert, am I doing something wrong?
Not sure I have a plan, it seems to change every time I spot something else to investigate.
