How best to remove glue from headliner

I’ve taken out my mouldy headliner and the horse hair backing but I’ve left with the black glue on the metal roof. I’ve tried acetone and a blade and it’ll take weeks to remove it.

Would a sanding wheel on a drill or even wire wheel be too much and damage the metal? I want to keep a bare metal interior roof. It’ll be repainted inside once the headlining is out and the glue gone.

Try spray on paint stripper. Any wheel etc will gouge the soft alloy.

Also kicking up lots of fibre dust. Is the glue brown or clear. Brown is horses hooves evostik Clear is alternative.

Maybe a heat gun will soften it enough to scrap it off. May release some fumes though.

Hair dryer from a Freelander driver might be better than a heatgun. Or get the Freelander driver to do it.

My suggestion would be removing the roof, placing it upside down on the ground, then applying some sort of liquid solvent that will soak into the glue. I would try white spirit first.

You could leave a rag soaked in the solvent sitting on top of the glue, then try scraping it off with a plastic scraper once it has soaked in and softened it.

If that didn't work, it may be then worth trying a heat gun on it as the fumes wouldn't be such a problem outside.

With the roof removed, you can then hose or jet wash away any remaining mess.

Caramel wheel, like used for vinyl signwriting removal?

You will regret it as you will get condensation & drips been there done that lol

Contact/impact adhesive has its own solvent. And yes it’s expensive.

Get an eraser wheel specifically designed for removing glue and stickers from bodywork?

I've always found that petrol removes Evo-stick and other contact adhesives.
