I swapped the hoses today on my W reg 1.8, to the ones with the remote thermostat (getting the old one off was an absolute nightmare!).

I followed the instructions to the letter, blowing down the valve thing & bleeding from the coolant rail and the heater hose. Now a couple of questions:

1. The last part of the bleeding instructions say to run the car until the fan comes on, then let it cool and top up the expansion tank. I ran mine for over 20 minutes but the fan didn´t come on and the temp gauge remained in its usual position just below the half way mark. Should it have started to overheat by ticking over for 20 minutes?

2. When I start the car I can hear a "burbling" which sounds like it´s coming from behind the dash. Is this the heater, even though I bled it until no more air came out of the bleed screw?

3. I fitted the small expansion tank which had the float level switch in it. Do you know where I can get a plug to fit the socket?

Cheers

Freelanders are a pig to bleed the water system, you just have to keep opening the bleed screws every couple of days untill it eventually clears. The radiators on them are miles to big for the car and the fans may not come on at all.
