I did the same just before xmas!!! Rust be fooked...... I've just got a replacement inner wing for mine then she's ready for some mods. But upon browsing the disco section some peeps motors are made of rust, but then rebuilt.

Thank heavens I still got my Freelander!!!!

Its suprisingly rust free, there one little bubble under that paint on the tailgate. Inner wings are good.

Its a 3.5 v8 manual, 2 door, and even still has the landrover handbag!!

nice one, i got the 3.9 v8, think ive been lucky with the rust too considering some models i have seen. Still its a long term project anyway, so on the drive for a while being worked on. Hence the reason I still have the freelander DISCOPOL, so the wife can still get to work, drop the kids off and we can still go laning with the club!!!

 3.9 v8.....i take it it will be on drive for a while thanks to fuel prices, thank god i have my hippo.

At least they int bought a durdy tratter. I does feel sorry for them having to deal with tin worm. Must be difficult. Warms yer heart to think so many sent in their buscuit tins to help patch up the older vehicles. Am glad to say my Freelanders nearly 11 years old and he still has his original boot floor.

*cough*

I think that they liked saving paint at halewood. I've never understood why the didn't paint all of the hippo bodies, properly.

Thats a solihul hippo. Manufacturers only paint primary areas of the car with the colour coat. This is everything you can see with the doors closed, from the outside. Hence around the door isn't always done. Around the doors are secondary areas so they don't alwasy get done, but most do. Inner boot space is a secondary area too. Not always done. Found this out when complaining about me last car to ford.

Hi,
just to let you know all land rovers vehicles post 1994/5 went through an ecoat dip before they were painted. secondary areas was painted but did not have clear coat applied (cost saving). other areas like the roof on the inside of the car had no paint just ecoat, if you take a look its like a brown/green colour. i worked there for 16 years from 1990 to 2006 this is how i know this.

If you painted mine, well done, she polishes up loverly!!! However it must have been assemble on a Friday afternoon, just before shut down. I havent worked there but feel as though I too have 16 yrs experience since getting my hands on her!!!!

Do they also do cathodic protection where they somehow electrocute the metal as part of the anti rust proofing? Just wondered. They did this to my ford. Metal wasn’t clean due to what they called “sealer skip” so there was a few rust patched near the seams.

Building Freelanders for a living is near the top of me favorite jobs lists. I do a bit in me spare time.

hmmmmm......imagine running 45 spots around the bodyside inner using a very large very heavy spot welder in 1 minute 45 seconds at 3am on a friday morning with fours hours left til hometime, 144 left to do and you've already done 216........far from fun mate....

Haaa haaaa

the disco threw the water pump pulley, causing the timing belt to slip and killed of the heads, whilst the guy was bringing it for delivery.

Looks like they are as reliable as a Hippo.
