Series 3 Holes in wheel drum

Quick one . rear drum . I noticed that there were I think 5 holes on outside of drum , these were blocked with old grease and crap , im assuming these are some sort of drain holes ? Please enlighten me

Five seems a lot have seen a couple in mine drilled into outer edge of brake shoe track.

Water can get in by the gallon between the drum and backplate.

It's a good idea to give it a easy route out.

There are 4 holes to let water out when wet and dust out when dry.
When I was trialing my 2a I drilled them out to half an inch to clear the drums quicker.
