Hill Descent Switch

Can some kind member tell me if the Hill Descent Switch should be illuminated. Spent last night in the depths of Exmoor on a charity event and had to use the Mud/Ruts selection to get me out of a muddy field - selecting this of course brings on the hill descent mode also which I didn't have to use. But when on the road I was fumbling to locate the switch (in the dark) which wasn't illuminated to switch the flashing symbol off. Had to stop in the end to do it.

My first time in the Freelander section - I'm normally to be found in the Defender area also asking dumb questions.
