While driving my 2005 TD4, I noticed the Hill Descent Control & Traction Control warning lights occasionaly illuminated. When I turn the ignition off, and start again, the lights are gone. But a few days later, the same problem arises…

And something completely different… (or maybe not?)
When idling, the rpm's sometimes changes from 500 to 1500 rpm without touching the gas. I while back it even stalled and i had to restart.

While driving, the car sporadically starts to shake, while shaking, the engine warning light appears for as long as the car is shaking..

Any idea what the problems could be?

it's a warning that the doors are about to fall off....

seriously though, would be thinking fuel pump for the shaking / engine management light, but would help loads if you told us which freelander you have.

the tc/hdc light could be the brake light switch, common problem my td4 had same problem and new brake light switch cured that, when was it last serviced?the vibration sounds like an engine running problem as the engine management light is coming on,but someone else might have a better idea as ive never had that type of problem hope that helps a bit

Best check your brake lights are working, if not it's the brake switch.

It happened on my TD4 but only 1 bulb was out and the switch was ok, I fitted a new new bulb and I've not had the TC or abs lights come on since.

Can't help on the em light though, it's not a problem I've had yet..............

strange that, jaguar are the same, brake light bulb out and the abs and tc lights come on,funny way of warning a bulb out.

I've checked and the brake lines work fine when the HDC and TC light come one.
I did notice that when they come on it us usually during braking......and when they go out again it is also during braking.
Should i try to check the brake switch?

Its a common fault with freelanders ,you need the modified brake light switch
part no LXKB500120 and wiring harness pat no LYMQ50328O ,about £25 from L/R dealer.
