I think I have found my fuel leak on my td4, I had a look first thing this morning and the pump was bone dry so I started it up and from what I can see there is a plate on the to of the pump and fuel was seeping out from there .Is the a common place for them to leak ? also does any one of a link for a repair kit for my car it is a 2006 freelander 1 td4 .While I am there from what I have read you have to take quite a bit off the engine to get at the pump how hard would it be to change the thermostat at the same time ? thanks guys

The fuel pump can leak from any of its 3 pump heads. Mine still leaked after I rebuilt it, although at a much lesser amount. You won't know which kit you'll need until you get one head off. There are 2 types of top seal, that can't be identified without removing a head first.

My pump was very rusty, which although cleaned before rebuilding, was likely the cause of my continued leak.

I've just replaced my leaking pump with second hand leak free replacement. I'll rebuild my original pump again when time allows.

I have been looking on ebay for a second hand pump but I don't think you get a guarantee unless I buy a recondition pump

So once I take the pump to bits how do I find out which kit I need ? Sorry for the silly questions

The difference is in the shape of the largest seal. One is teardrop shaped (like mine( ringed in red))

The other type has a circular seal. There are kit suppliers that provide both seal types in the same pack. These cost more than the single seal kit, but have the benifit of not having to wait for the correct seal to arrive.

If your pump is rusty like mine, then the surface will require refacing, or it'll continue to leak.;)
