Hi guys,
Just locked my disco 2 2001 reg, and a high pitch squeeling noise is coming from the rear quarter of the car? When I lock and unlock it, And it seems to be in time with the flashing of the indicators on the rear bumper, any ideas?

I have absolutely no idea!! - Have you tried operating the indicators and hazards without the engine running? Does it make the noise then? Do you have some kind of dodgy non- standard parking sensor or reversing bleeper?

My 2001 TD5 XS just flashes the indicators; all you hear is the door actuator working (or actuators if you unlocked it a second time to unlock ALL the doors).

Sounds like an aftermarket thingy that the towbar electrics use when indicating with a trailer attached has gone faulty.
Can't for the life of me remember what the thingy's real name is though!

If biggeeeee's correct then such a gadget might be fitted behind either of the two vented panels at the bottom of the rear pillars just inside the tailgate. IIRC the Land Rover towing electric multiplug was behind the offside rear. (used with a stock towbar)

The multiplug for the towing electrics is behind the offside tail light. I unplugged mine today as I removed the tow bar.

If you have the land rover electrics, you might get a few bob for it, they cost a small fortune, compared to the aftermarket stuff

It is factory landrover stuff but it will be going back on. Well the electrics will anyway as the tow bar itself will be swapped for a 2" NAS reciever.

It's currently off so that some rot on the rear chassis can be plated up before it takes hold.

Wow, thank you for the response! I'll go and try the indicators now and see if it makes the noise! And theres nothing that i can think thats chaned with the tow bar electrics! Thanks guys, i'll report back in a moment!

Okay, update. The noise happens when I indicate or out the hazards on? Not a clue what it could be :(
Only thing I've done today is change the number plate bulbs?

The reg lights?

I meant tail lights but I was having a brain fart anyway sorry. As yours is pre-facelift your indicators are in the bumper. Unplug those one at a time and see if the noise goes.

Something in the lighting circuit is causing the noise. By breaking the circuit one part at a time you'll track it down.

On a side note. Is the little green trailer flashing on the dash when you indicate? It flashes to tell you the trailer lights are working so it may be that the land rover thinks a trailer is wired up when it isn't.

possibly could be a bad earth on the rear tow bar electrics, espec if you have a audible device fitted, try the 7 pin plug as they rust/corrode

That is a possibility, the tow electrics won't have been used in a very long time so rust is highly likely! But I'll take the bumper lights out and see if that stops anything as the noise is definitely from that area!
Again, thanks for the advice lads!

for anyone interested, the land rover fixed its self over night so no more annoying squeek! :clap2:

It sounds like the Trailer Indcator "Tell Tell" ie it buzzes to let you know the indicators are working (Drawing Current). Sounds like either the unit is faulty or your towbar electrics are up the swanny
