My friend got pulled over in his car (not Landrover) by the police and vosa they told him his headlights were illegal, they explained that it was illegal to use or sell HID bulbs as the pattern for the ordinary headlight bulbs differ from HID bulbs and he would be dazzling every body , now I had mentioned this to him when he first did the change but he is always knowing better so I do not say anything any more , luckily he had his old bulbs in the boot and changed them at the time and they let him off with that but the rest of the car well I will not go there ,I did also tell him not to have his headlights on all the time in the day, any way I checked up on Vosa's web site and it is true you can not buy or sell HID's for ordinary bulb head lights,

You can actually buy them but using them in an E marked headlamp cancels the E mark. HIDs have a completely different light output from a halogen bulbs. This means they need a proper lense to direct the light not just a reflector.
