.....just popped in to get a wee bit of advice and realised I had to register, so here I am.

I've been thinking about getting a Landy for a wee while and tomorrow might well be the very day it happens......

I'm off to see a 2001 model Freelander 2.5 V6 GS - that's been LPG converted! What I've been told by the seller seems hunky-dory, but whether it lives up to his report may well be another matter entirely.

As a Landy novice, is there any advice you good folks can give me??

Awra Best,

Paul.

Cheers Sean. Have already went down that road, but I just keep coming back to Landy's - must be a deathwish thing.

Meant to add, the Freelander is an automatic (it's a wife thing!!!).

if she's pestering you to buy it make sure it's her that's going to be paying for its upkeep

utter ****e. You wanna landy get a proper one!!!

Oh and welcome to LZ...and listen to Sean, there's a man who knows what he's talking about!

I'd love a Defender, but that wouldn't be practical at the minute. TBH I like the looks of the Freelander and the Mrs likes em - it's about the only thing we really meet half-way on. I just wanted to check the opinions of people who knew em. Looks like my questions have been answered.

u will get the truth here. lay urself open to a bit of **** taking n u will get plenty of that too. have a thick skin n dont take things too seriously. nobody hates u even if it seems like it sometimes - trust me I've bin there. now its just funny

You don't want a fooking hairdressers car. All ya mates will think you've gone queer. The fooking thing will cost so much to keep on the road. You'll never have penny left spare to be able to afford to drink to drown ya sorrows. The missus will blame you for buying a ****e one, and "but I told yu they were crap" will definately by the worst thing yu cud ov said to her..

Oh and we have a few care in the community cases on ere. and they'll try to confuse you by pretending that they have a gaylander and that it's a great car that never breaks down. and is great offroad. Ignore em they've just forgotten to take their meds this week.

You gotta WEAR them trousers my friend!!!:D:D:D You know you need to!

If only it were that easy.......

Thanks for the links to the horror stories, Sean - I'd heard about a few of the things mentioned, but some of the other stuff I hadn't.

Like I said, Olive likes em, but I've got an open mind (looking at the horror stories an open wallet would be handy too). We'll go see this one tomorrow anyway. I now have a better idea of what might lie in store for us.

As for the Disco....I like em. Couple of mates have them and they love em, but as this would primarily be for the Mrs and she thinks it's too big for her, then it's a non-starter. A shame really, as I'd have had one of them before a Freelander.

But thanks for yer honesty.

find a nice disco for her to test drive, i bet she'll love it

No you're not listening Tell her they are ****e and cost a fortune to maintain, and your not buying one. If she sulks tell her she can have a gaylander and no new clothes for as long as you own it, or a disco/defender and new clothes. she'll soon see sense.
