hi what is this part for ?

hi got a load of new bits when i purchased my series 3 and there is a gear and hosuing of some sort and dont have a clue piccys below thanks in advance

You've probably got an overdrive fitted. These are the leftover parts from the original vehicle that are no longer required.

If you are considering finding a new home for them, have a read of this thread then get in touch with the author as these are the parts he's looking for.
