Hi, I signed up a while ago, and I have been reading posts on here for a lot longer that have helped with each issue I’ve tackled so far, so thanks to all who’ve posted that info.

I have a Green 2002 Freelander 2.0 Td4 ES 5dr with 134k miles.

I’ve had this one for two years, having had a similar blue ES Premium some years ago and a red one in between.

So far I’ve done the following,

EGR delete and thorough clean of manifold

Full oil change etc.

New battery

Removed prop and VCU

New wishbones

Replaced front outer cvs. (Did replace whole driveshaft but crap inners caused shudder on acceleration so put the proper ones back!)

Inner cv oil seals

New from shocks

Refurbed hubs and pressed new bearings in plus new brake shields etc.

New brake lines all round and flexi pipes

New brake discs and pads

Rebuilt rear brakes

Reverse sensors

Inter cooler hoses

Vacuum pipes replaced

New VCU and bearings

New Geolandar tyres do not to f**k the VCU etc

Big driving/spot light so I can actually see the road

Tried to get new key programmed (failed) so chip is now glued near ignition barrel.

Sealed up the broken leaky sunroof

Recovered the saggy headliner, deleting the sunroof hole.

Tinted windows B post backward

Fitted Synergy 2 and MAF

Current issues include,

Drumming noise coming from roof (previous owner had used expanding foam!)

Creaking noise behibd drivers seat coming off throttle. Likely rear subframe crack issue but bolt undoes fine so tightened up for now....

Rear elec window mechanism needs sorting

Wet boot cubby

Auxiliary belt looks like it’s not fitted right!

Couple of spots of rust

Drive lovely and prefer driving it much of the time over my newer cars!

Look forward to chats, helping others and getting help too.

Why did you remove the prop & vcu? Did someone tell you it would improve mpg??

Welcome.
Hi,

I removed them when I first got it as it drove like ****e. It handled very strangely compared to the two id had before, sort of over steering and “cutting in” when cornering if that makes sense. I thought I’d remove to see if it made any difference, and because it was clearly the original from new and didn’t want to cause any issues. The tyres were also different makes and condition front to back.

It’s back to 4wd now, and along with the other changes and a good alignment session, it drives great. Only problem I foresee is the prop bearings. Used a pair which were fairly cheap and not fag. Certain I can hear them grumbling already.
