Hi, new to site and to owning a Freelander.

Just joined the site folks, I'm not a moaner or groaner and like the banter.
Just bought a second hand Freelander 1.8 petrol in great condition for its age, first registered 2000 and apart from a few wee expected niggles looks good.

Any one any ideas why the car would loose power after getting warmed up, then starts and drives well for another few miles before loosing power again. I have noticed that the tempreture gauge is not working? could thet be associated with the fault.

So far I have changed the distributor cap and rotor arm, its getting a new crank sensor and thermostat and full service as we speak. All filters are being changed and the timing belt is getting done as a precaution.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, sorry to hear you bought a freelander,

Secondly, sounds like head gasket failure to me. In which case, start crying and learn how to tie a noose

Cmon, freelanders are no that bad.....are they. Matches not needed at this point, and honest guys I tie the best hangmans noose in Scotland.

Plenty of water in it, cylinder head has been skimmed and no gasket problems. Will get to the bottom of it in the end.

Good to find a site with so many comedians.

Welcome to the mad house If you ask those nice gents in the Gaylander section, Im sure they'll be able to help. Might also be worth filling in your rough location as well, it helps (sometimes) when people are giving advice

Right folks, should get my Freelander back later today, timing belt done, crank sensor done, thermostat and related relays done, full service done and a couple of new tyres. Drop link replaced.

Hopefully the above will solve all the minor issues I had with it and looking forward to many miles of happy driving.

Be careful when replacing only two tyres! It can screw up your vcu.
