Hi Everyone. Looking to buy my very first, going to start off with doing research on here, lots of reading posts and seeing what you folks say about what to buy, what to look for and what to avoid. My budget is tiny, £1000/1500, I will strip it, clean it and sell it on and try and make a couple of hundred out of it and then try again with a slightly bigger budget as I save. So far i'm thinking of a cheap Freelander then as soon as I can to a high mileage Discovery. I'm on the edge of the New Forest so those are the type that sell well here. I've seen one high mileage Discovery which I think is beautiful for £5k and would love to find myself something like that to keep for myself for some time.
Unfortunately the whole Covid thing hit my business hard and lost all my patients/clients hence the low starting point.

Welcome to the forum

Buy a Freelander and keep it ;)

Welcome

Just as a side note, are you really 58? Only asking as your post reads like a youngster. Maybe young at heart? :)
Yep I am but when it comes to knowledge of these I'm very young and stupid which is why I joined, I'm old enough though to know there are so many a lot younger than me that know way more and I like to acknowledge that by asking for help:cool:

Hi there and welcome.
My thoughts, of you buy something for 1-1500, do it up and sell it, you should be putting more than a couple hundred on if you've done a reasonable job

Thank you, yes I’m sure you’re right. If I find something nice though I’d like to keep it for 6 months so I was just trying to be cautious and not expect too much

I found something in Basingstoke that needs a new fuel pressure regulator/pump thing but it doesn’t drive and I would have to have it repaired at the owners address but sourcing someone to do the job and hoping that’s all it is is likely a bit naive of me

Welcome from someone who also lives on the edge of the New Forest but probably not the same edge!
You might still be able to pick up a Disco 1 or 2 for that money. I have! but then maybe I was just lucky or prices have moved up a bit recently.
There is tons on here about what to look out for on them. Mainly rust issues. Bodies on D1s and rear chassis on D2s.
If I wasn't in France and you don't live to far away from us in the UK, i'd come out with you to have a look around, but I know sweet FA about Freeloaders!:):):)
(Back end of October!)

Thank you, I'm Chandlers Ford and it's bloomin difficult trying to look at anything without transport and hate the train but shouldn't complain. Where in France are you Stanley? we've another house in the Limousin

I can imagine your problem if you are without even a bike to get around on. Feel your pain mate!
In France we are in the Tarn so Limoges is halfway there and our stopover point when we drive here from the Channel port.
Take it you aren't retired or you would be over here like us!;)

Oh yes I’m retired, 3 times over with different careers lol but keep looking for more challenges so about to look at a 4th career. House is rented out long term and has been for about 7 years.
